13 Days to Last Dance for Cadence Sneak Peek Snippet Run!
Every time a new Corbin’s Bend books is released, I just get a little bit more excited. For Ben by Kate Richards came out the other day. Squeee! I’ve just got to do something!
I know! It’s 13 days to my newest release, so how about we do a sneak peek snippet run? One for each day from now until the 23rd when Last Dance for Cadence, the second to last book in the first Corbin’s Bend series run goes live? I’ll even hand out prizes–three free copies of the book, either via Kindle, Nook, or if you have an account with Blushing Books, a free copy through them. Not one, not two, but three!
Woot! you say (because you’re really excitable like that). But what do I have to do to win one, you ask?
Nothing more strenuous than leaving a comment,. 🙂 For every comment you leave, I’ll enter your name into the hat to win one of those free copies. You can enter as many as once per post, so that by the end of this, if you only had a chance to comment once, you’ll have one entry to win. But if you commented every single day, then you’ll have 13 chances to win. And if you leave more than 13 comments because you’ve got multiple email addresses and pretend names and you’re tricksey like that, then you’ll have…(drum roll) 13 chances to win by the end because, dude, you know I know it’s you, right?
Okay, rules explained, we’ll do it in the fashion of Saturday Spankings with eight lines posted each day from now until the 23rd or until my publisher groans and says, “Maren, you can’t do that!” I’ll even post them all from the same scene, giving you one long-running glimpse into the story….oh, but which one…which one…
Oh, I know! How about the first spanking scene between the handsome widower Dr. Marcus Devon and his newly hired housekeeper/nanny, Cadence Westmore? I’ve posted one snippet from this book last month already. Who here remembers Cadence walking angrily away from the good doctor, saying “This is my good girl behavior.” Show of hands. Anyone? …Anyone at all? Okay well, here’s a refresher if you missed it. No, no. Go ahead and read it. We’ll wait.
…Did they actually go read it? Because I totally lied. We don’t wait for anyone.
Hang onto your keyboards, because here we go! Launching the Corbin’s Bend Last Dance for Cadence Sneak Peek Snippet Run, here’s Day #1.
The line-up: Cadence hasn’t even made it through one full day yet as Dr. Devon’s new housekeeper/nanny. During dinner, Marcus censures one of his sons and Cadence interferes, for which he sends her to his office for a private talking-to away from inquisitive little ears. His ‘Do not contradict me in front of my children’ lecture very quickly becomes something more when Cadence argues with him. Cadence who has never been spanked before, is about to get her very first taste of Corbin’s Bend style discipline.
“Do you want to get your bag and return to Venia’s?” he asked, his question every bit as firm as a demand.
Although he didn’t actually say it, Cadence knew what he was really asking. An explosion of phantom sensations shot up the backs of her thighs and spread out like a wave across her bottom.
Was he going to spank her? Right now? She was a grown woman! This could not be happening! And why did it suddenly feel like excitement rather than anger or dread? She wasn’t excited by this, she couldn’t possibly be! Not by the prospect of his hand clapping hard down across her bottom—surely not!
“No,” she said, her throat so tight that it came out raspy and hoarse.
The ad read: “Full-time housekeeper/nanny position. Live-in preferred. References and experience required. Salary negotiable. Apply in person.”
Cadence Westmore knew she wasn’t qualified for the job, but for a paycheck and an apartment, she was determined to apply. As an ex-dancer with two bad legs and no experience with children, she expected to be turned down. What she didn’t expect was the instant attraction she felt when Corbin Bend’s resident doctor took her in his capable hands.
A widower with three boys to raise, Dr. Marcus Devon knew he needed help. But he also knew Cadence Westmore was the last person he should hire. Still he gave her the job, opening his home and his life to a woman as stubborn as she was lovely, and as determined not to need him as he was to make her his. She was her own worst enemy, pushing herself to exceed her wounded body’s physical limitations until the doctor finally stepped in to apply some good old-fashioned bare-bottom medicine. The more she rebelled, the more he took her across his knee until at last Cadence realized if she wasn’t careful, she just might lose everything all over again.
