Ready…Set…WRITE!!!

Guess what, boys and girls…It’s NaNoWriMo time!

That’s right, it’s National Novel Writing Month. Every year, hundreds of thousands of masochistic authors around the world throw themselves into the challenge of churning out 50,000 words on a novel, any novel, in a single month. What month did they pick to perform this monumental feat? Why, one already chock-a-block full of family-oriented activities (otherwise known as damned obligatory distractions), like Thanksgiving and Black Friday and husbands who ask silly questions like, “When are you going to start cleaning the house again?” and “Hey, honey, what’s for dinner?” Why we do this to ourselves, I have no idea, but being both an author and a masochist, I cheerfully fling myself onto the barbs of this challenge every single year.

This year, my project is going to be Chasing Chelsea, the 5th book in the Masters of the Castle series. Up until this morning, I have not penned word one on this story. You’ll notice the book is already listed under my WIP bar and that it had a word count of 1200 for that last month or so. This is the word count of the chapter by chapter outline. From here on out, the outline lives in its own file and the word count under the WIP title of this book is the actual word count of the story. So, Woo hoo! Let the fun and the writing begin!

And should you, dear reader, find yourself to also be possessed of a masochistic yet creative soul, then by all means, come join in the fun! It’s absolutely free (costing only what blood, sweat and tears you’ll undoubtedly shed during the creative head-banging process) and there are no websites to sign up to complete it. You’re pretty much on your own, held liable only to the honor system of reporting. You don’t even have to report, really, but hey–boasting rights. It’s pretty flippin’ cool any time you write 50k words or more in a single month. Drop me a line and let me know if you want to join in the madness…er, I mean fun! 🙂

    • Aw, Natasha! That’s okay, though. I understand how you feel about the deadline. I’ve been there many times myself…in fact, I’m still there. On the other hand, you’re one of the professionals. You probably churn out 50k words every morning just chewing Cheerios. (Or is that wishful thinking on both our parts?) 😀
